The LoonBoard - NewAE's premier video development system. Capable of full studio quality graphics, it packs a powerful punch in a small package. A Xilinx 200K FPGA, 8MBit SRAM, 8MBit FLASH, a video encoder and decoder, battery backed RTC, EEPROM, an AVR 8-bit microcontroller, loads of user I/O and more packed into an 8x10 cm package. At $300 you can afford to get started in digital video with a system designed for real users. Features like connectors mounted on a 0.1" x 0.1" grid to work with pref-board, grounded or floating mounting holes, fused reverse polarity protection, current limiting, and vital information silk-screened right onto the PCB. It also has the lubloader - one bootloader interface lets you download new FPGA files and re-program the AVR. It's unique design avoids costly FPGA configuration chips, and also means you can program everything about the LoonBoard with a serial port! At about 20 seconds to download a new FPGA file and AVR file it's faster than normal programmers. |

The LoonBoard Unified Bootloader (LUB)- NewAE's advanced system of loading both a FPGA bitstream and an Atmel AVR file over one serial port. This allows easier system integration since you don't need two programming interfaces. As well since most new computers do not have a parallel port it eliminates needing anything beyond a serial cable or USB-serial adapter. Featured in Feb 2006 Circuit Cellar. |
